ZOOLights is back at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens after a three year break, with a reimagined walk through light tunnels, larger than life illuminated animal displays and interactive light, color and sound experiences. Families will also find a festive holiday village, projection games, a roaming DJ, live music on Friday nights and treats like s'mores and holiday drinks.

Santa is on hand for photos on select nights, and the zoo links a separate booking for a visit with him. Entry is by timed window, either 6 to 7:30 pm or 7:30 to 9 pm, and you can stay until 10 pm. A holiday market with more than 25 local vendors runs December 16 to 20. Note that the animals are asleep and not visible during the event.

The Dallas Graham Branch is starting the holiday season early with a free arts and crafts event in its Children's Area. The library describes it as a holiday event with seasonal crafts, aimed at school age kids, and it fits neatly into the hour after school.

No registration is required, so families can simply drop by. It is a low key way to make a few holiday projects together before Thanksgiving week gets busy, and a good chance to browse the children's shelves for seasonal picture books while you are there. Because it is held the week of Thanksgiving, it can also be a fun way to keep kids busy during the short school week.

Parent tip: No registration needed; the event is held in the Children's Area.

Activities begin at 5 pm at Riverfront Plaza, the City of Jacksonville Christmas tree is lit at 6:25 pm, and the Jacksonville Light Boat Parade sets off at 6:30 pm with decorated boats cruising past the North and Southbank riverwalks.

Parade winners are announced on the Holiday Stage at 8:15 pm, followed by fireworks at about 8:30 pm, including the waterfall effect from the Main Street and Acosta bridges. The city says more 2026 details are still to come, so check the page closer to the date for the full activity lineup. Admission is free, and the evening is a good fit for families who want lights, music and fireworks in one outing.

The Mandarin Branch invites families to a frozen wonderland story time, with a story full of magical princesses and talking snowmen. After the reading, kids can have their picture taken with one or both of the visiting ice princesses.

Children also work on a craft and enjoy a treat during the hour. The event is drop in, free and open to all, and it is listed for families and early childhood ages, so it suits preschoolers and early elementary kids who love a costumed character visit. It is held in the branch's Community Room. Since it is a drop in program, you can arrive any time during the hour, although coming at the start gives children the full story and the most time with the princesses.

Parent tip: Bring a phone or camera for photos with the ice princesses. No registration is needed.
