The Frayser Library is hosting a Holiday Crafts Corner for Kids on Thursday, December 10, from 4 to 5 pm. Children ages 5 to 12 are invited to make fun and easy ornaments for the holiday season.

The library notes that crafting ornaments helps children express creativity, practice fine motor skills, and enjoy the feeling of giving something personal to loved ones, so the finished pieces make good gifts for grandparents or teachers. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Memphis Public Libraries programs are free and open to the general public. The one hour, after school time slot makes this an easy weekday stop, and it pairs well with the branch's Family Holiday Storytime two days later.

Parent tip: A parent or guardian must stay with children under 12.

The library describes it as a relatively simple craft, and it is listed for tweens and teens, which makes it a good pick for older kids who want something more playful than a traditional ornament. Memphis Public Libraries programs are free and open to the general public. If you cannot make it, the event page links to the official Star Wars instructions so you can try the project at home. Finished ornaments are ready to hang on the family tree.

Parent tip: Glue and paint are involved, so dress kids in clothes that can get messy.

A story for the drive home

A morning with Santa or an evening of holiday stories tends to end the same way: tired kids, a long drive and one more book before bed. Our picture book follows Rally the corgi on his first train ride to see his grand-paw-rents, and every page is painted by hand. If your family is spending December missing someone, it was written for that too. For the car, print our free corgi and train coloring pages.
