Safari Lights returns to the Oklahoma City Zoo from November 14 through January 3, 2027. The main experience is a drive through tour of large wildlife themed light sculptures, and a separate walk through course starts at the zoo's entry plaza with a musical light show, interactive light exhibits, s'mores stations and photo spots.

The tourism board listing also mentions kids activities, festive treats and themed photo opportunities, and this year adds a private decorated sleigh ride for up to seven guests and a private heated igloo for groups. Drive thru and walk thru admission are sold separately, and hours and prices are posted on the zoo's Safari Lights page, so choose your format and night before buying. The drive through option is handy for toddlers or chilly evenings.

Parent tip: Decide between drive thru and walk thru admission before you buy; the walking course has the s'mores and interactive displays.

Seats are limited and the library is clear that only registered kids will have a canvas, so signing up is a must. Waitlisted families are notified automatically if a spot opens. It is a good fit for school age kids who like a hands-on project with a familiar holiday character. To plan your trip, Bethany Library is at 3510 N Mueller Ave in Bethany, OK, and this listing comes from the Metropolitan Library System events calendar. The date and time to put on the family calendar: Fri, Dec 18, 4 to 5 pm.

The afternoon also includes a Christmas cookie and a cup of hot chocolate, so it has the feel of a small holiday party. It suits school-age kids who are a little old for preschool story times but still love a hands-on holiday project.

Are there Christmas train rides for kids in Oklahoma City?

Yes, but they have their own guide. Santa trains and holiday train rides are listed in our Oklahoma City Christmas train rides guide, so this page sticks to story times, Santa visits and other events off the rails.

How do you confirm these events?

We list an event only after we find this season’s date on the host’s own website or an official city or tourism calendar. We last checked every listing on November 2, 2026. Hosts change details, so always confirm on the host’s page before you go.

Event names belong to their hosts. Rally Takes the Train is a family picture book and is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any host listed here. Confirm dates, times and prices on each host’s own site before you go.
