The Collection at RiverPark hosts its annual Tree Lighting Celebration in Collection Park on Wednesday, November 18. The festivities kick off at 7 pm with live music from the band Music Freqs and a performance by American Idol contestant Lynzee Fraye. Santa makes a special appearance, and the evening ends with the lighting of the tree and a fireworks show at about 8 pm.
From 5 pm, families can pick up a complimentary Christmas light-up wand at the Natural Green Landscape and Construction booth. Wands must be collected in person, with one per person while supplies last. The event takes place regardless of weather, but the fireworks are subject to weather, noise and safety conditions and may be postponed or canceled. The organizers note that fireworks can be loud, so ear protection is recommended for small children and anyone sensitive to noise.
Parent tip: Bring ear protection for little ones, and collect your free light-up wand in person from 5 pm while supplies last.

Santa's Mailbox returns to The Collection at RiverPark, giving children a simple way to write a heartfelt letter to Santa. Families can bring their own holiday cards or write a message on complimentary postcards available at Guest Services, at 2751 Park View Court.
Letters go into Santa's official North Pole mailbox on Collection Boulevard, just outside the Annex Food Hall next to Wetzel's Pretzels. Santa and Mrs. Claus send a personal reply to every letter that includes a return address and is received by December 15. The Collection's elves help make sure each wish list reaches the North Pole. This is a quick stop that fits easily into a shopping trip or a visit to Santa photos, and writing the letter at home first is a nice way to build excitement before you arrive.
Parent tip: Add a return address to the letter and mail it by December 15 to get a reply.

The 76th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony takes place at Plaza Park in Downtown Oxnard on Thursday, December 3. The market runs from 5 to 9 pm. Plaza Park is the same spot where the historic pagoda is decorated with lights, Christmas characters and snow for the whole month of December, so families can come back later in the season to see the display again. The park is at 500 South C Street in downtown Oxnard. The 19th Annual Oxnard Tamale Festival takes over Plaza Park in Downtown Oxnard on Saturday, December 5, from 9 am to 6 pm. Visit Oxnard describes authentic tamales, lively music and a festive kid's zone where children can explore, all along the Oxnard Christmas Parade route.
The festival is a way to mix a family outing with a holiday tradition in the heart of downtown. Plaza Park is at 500 South C Street, and the park is decorated for the holidays throughout December. The Visit Oxnard guide does not list ticket prices, kid's zone activities or a parade time, so check the City of Oxnard event page for those details before heading out. Parking and street closures can be busy on festival days, so allow extra time.
Parent tip: Check the City of Oxnard event page for the kid's zone activities and parade timing, and allow extra time for parking.

Caring Santa is a sensory friendly way to visit Santa at The Collection at RiverPark. The center partners with the Autism Society of Ventura County to offer a calm, unhurried photo experience designed for children with sensitivities. Santa takes things slowly and follows each child's lead, so every family can settle in and make a holiday memory at its own pace.
The sessions take place on two Sundays, December 6 and December 13, from 10 to 11:30 am. Reservations are available online through the center's events page. The photo area is in Santa's Workshop on Town Center Drive. Families who prefer the regular Santa photo schedule can use the daily Photos with Santa reservations instead, which run from November 20 through December 24.
Parent tip: Reserve online ahead of time. Santa follows your child's lead, so there is no need to rush.

Santa's float tours Oxnard neighborhoods from December 9 through December 18. Visit Oxnard says Santa rides on his sleigh playing holiday music, with Mrs. Claus and elves on board, and a snow machine at select locations. The tour covers the Central, Southeast, Northeast, Northwest, Del Norte (The Collection), South Central and Southwest communities, and select nights pass through Christmas Tree Lane on F and G Streets.
Because the route changes every night, families track the float on Instagram and Facebook at @OxnardRec or call the float hotline at 805-402-0403. Children can wait outside as the float rolls by, so it makes an easy, low cost way to see Santa close to home. Times for each neighborhood are not listed in the Visit Oxnard guide, so check the hotline or social pages for the nightly schedule.
Parent tip: Check @OxnardRec or call 805-402-0403 for the nightly route before heading out.

Channel Islands Harbor celebrates its 60th Annual Parade of Lights on Saturday, December 12, with the theme Aloha Afloat. The family fun starts at noon at Harbor View Park with the Parade of Lights Holiday Market, which runs until 7 pm. Kids can play in a snow area, get free pictures with Santa, and browse holiday shopping from local artisans and vendors, with food and festive treats available.
The parade itself runs from 7 to 9 pm, when decorated boats light up the harbor with island inspired displays, music and tropical flair. Spectators line the waterfront to watch the boats pass. Arriving early for the market gives children time to play in the snow and meet Santa before the sun goes down, and then you can stay for the lights on the water.
Parent tip: Come at noon for the snow area and Santa photos, then stay for the parade after dark.

Christmas Tree Lane is one of Ventura County's biggest residential holiday light displays. From December 13 to 27, homeowners along F and G Streets between 5th Street and Palm Drive in the Henry T. Oxnard National Historic District decorate their houses, and visitors can walk or drive past the displays with a cup of hot chocolate. Walkers are guided to travel in the direction of traffic to keep things moving.
The F Street Railroad is a standout for children. Since 2001, Christmas Tree Lane has hosted a model train exhibit measuring 28 by 20 feet, with detailed locomotives and festive scenes that grow every year. A guided Holly Trolley tour is a separate, prepaid reservation option for people who prefer to ride through the lights, and Visit Oxnard says to look out for Santa and holiday carolers on those tours.
Parent tip: Walk in the direction of traffic. Look for the model train exhibit that children tend to love.

Kids of school age can craft holiday cards on Thursday, December 3, from 3 to 4:30 pm. The setting is the Homework Center at the Camarillo Public Library. They learn a method called watercolor resist and use it to produce seasonal designs for relatives and friends.
Registration is mandatory and happens on the online calendar for library events. Anyone waitlisted is let in 10 minutes before the start, following the order they registered. The program is free and meant for ages 6 to 12. It gives kids an easy, hands-on way to prepare cards to mail out ahead of the season, and it all takes place in the Homework Center at 4101 Las Posas Road. Registered kids sit first, and waitlisted kids wait for any seats left open right before things begin.
Parent tip: Register early using the online calendar, because waitlisted kids only get in 10 minutes before the start.

Parents are welcome to bring a camera to snap pictures with Santa. Children of any age may attend. You do not need to sign up, but room is limited, so it pays to come a bit early.
