The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History rings in the new year early for families who will not make it to midnight. The morning program includes photo opportunities, crafts and special New Year's activities, and it ends with a confetti drop in the museum atrium at 12 pm, which the museum calls the biggest confetti drop of the year.
Noon Year's Eve runs Thursday, December 31, 2026, from 10 am to noon and is included with regular museum admission. It is a good fit for the days between Christmas and New Year when kids are out of school, and the rest of the museum stays open into the afternoon. The program is aimed at kids, so the activities are built for little hands and short attention spans. Hours that Thursday run 10 am to 5 pm, so families can stay and explore the exhibits after the countdown.
Parent tip: The museum's entrance has moved; use the Omni Theater entrance on Lansford Lane.

The 38th annual Carol of Lights is on Monday, November 23, 2026, starting at 4 pm, and admission is free. Grapevine calls itself the Christmas Capital of Texas, and its Parade of Lights is one of the season's centerpieces. More than 100 lighted floats and marching bands travel along Historic Main Street, and Santa Claus makes a special appearance riding on the last float, which is the moment most kids wait for.
The 47th annual parade is on Thursday, December 3, 2026, starting at 7 pm, and watching from the curb is free. Families often come early to eat and shop along Main Street before claiming a viewing spot. The parade is the largest lighted Christmas parade in North Texas, according to the listing, and it is organized by the City of Grapevine. Weather can change plans, so check the city's event page that afternoon.
Parent tip: Arrive early for a good curbside spot; Main Street closes to cars on parade night.

A story for the drive home
A morning with Santa or an evening of holiday stories tends to end the same way: tired kids, a long drive and one more book before bed. Our picture book follows Rally the corgi on his first train ride to see his grand-paw-rents, and every page is painted by hand. If your family is spending December missing someone, it was written for that too. For the car, print our free corgi and train coloring pages.
