The Festival of Lights Parade is one of the most beloved holiday traditions in the Pikes Peak region. Nearly 100 entries, each covered in lights and decorations, travel down Tejon Street in downtown Colorado Springs, and the event draws tens of thousands of spectators each December.

The parade starts at 5:50 pm and runs until about 8 pm. Watching from the curb is free. Because crowds are large, families with small children may want to arrive early to claim a spot, and the Pioneers Museum on Tejon serves hot chocolate and cookies outside from 6 pm that same evening.

Parent tip: Crowds are large; come early for a curbside spot and dress for a cold December evening.

The stroll is free to attend, and shops offer one-night specials.

Parent tip: Santa and the Grinch move around, so walk the Tejon and Bijou blocks to find them.

A story for the drive home

A morning with Santa or an evening of holiday stories tends to end the same way: tired kids, a long drive and one more book before bed. Our picture book follows Rally the corgi on his first train ride to see his grand-paw-rents, and every page is painted by hand. If your family is spending December missing someone, it was written for that too. For the car, print our free corgi and train coloring pages.
