North Little Rock kicks off the holiday season with the Mayor's Tree Lighting in Argenta Plaza on Main Street. The evening includes festive carols, holiday cheer and the lighting of the city Christmas tree, which makes it an easy first holiday outing for families with young kids.
The city encourages guests to bring canned goods for the unsheltered community or items for the North Little Rock Animal Shelter, and a QR code at the event lists the shelter's needs. The North Little Rock Animal Mobile Unit will be on site, and THV11 plans a live broadcast from the plaza. The event is free.
Parent tip: Bring canned goods or animal shelter supplies to donate; it is an outdoor evening event, so dress warmly.

The City of North Little Rock, the Mid City Neighborhood Association and Full Counsel Ministries Metrochurch team up to light up Mid City two days before Thanksgiving. The ceremony takes place at the corner of 16th and Main Streets and is billed as the start of the countdown to Christmas.
The city describes the evening as a mix of festive lights and holiday treats, and it is free to attend. It is a short, one hour community event, which suits families with little ones who want to see a tree light up without a late night. Since it is outdoors in late November, plan on coats and hats.
Parent tip: The ceremony runs one hour starting at 6 pm, so arriving a few minutes early helps little ones see the lighting.

Run, run, as fast as you can: Laman Library sets up a Gingerbread Man scavenger hunt for kids on December 3. Children follow a trail of clues around the library to track down the Gingerbread Man, and small candy and non-candy prizes are available at the end.
There is no set start time and no reservation. Just ask a staff member how to get started whenever you visit during library hours. The library notes that the hunts are aimed at children ages 4 to 12 and that small children will need help from a grown-up to read and follow the clues, so plan to hunt together.
Parent tip: Ask at the desk to get the clue sheet; younger kids will need an adult to help read the clues.

Favorite characters from classic Christmas films are hiding in the children's department at Laman Library on December 10. Kids hunt for them around Laman Kids and can earn a small candy or non-candy prize once they finish.
This is a drop-in activity with no reservation needed. Stop by any time the library is open and ask a staff member how to start. The library says the hunts are geared to ages 4 to 12 and that small children will need a guardian's help, so it works best as a team activity. It pairs well with a stop to check out holiday picture books while you are there.
Parent tip: No sign-up needed; ask staff for the hunt sheet and plan to help preschoolers find the characters.

Santa and his elves bring a bit of the North Pole workshop to the Argenta Library in downtown North Little Rock. Families can take photos with Santa from 4 to 6 pm, and the library calls it a time for family photos, so siblings and parents are welcome in the picture.
After the photo, kids up to age 18 may choose one item from a free holiday shop to take home. Photos continue for the full two hours, but the shop stays open only while supplies last, so earlier is better if your child is excited about picking a gift. No registration is needed, and the event is free.
Parent tip: Arrive close to 4 pm if you want the best choice in the free holiday shop, which closes when supplies run out.

Yes, but they have their own guide. Santa trains and holiday train rides are listed in our Little Rock Christmas train rides guide, so this page sticks to story times, Santa visits and other events off the rails.
How do you confirm these events?
We list an event only after we find this season’s date on the host’s own website or an official city or tourism calendar. We last checked every listing on November 2, 2026. Hosts change details, so always confirm on the host’s page before you go.
Event names belong to their hosts. Rally Takes the Train is a family picture book and is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any host listed here. Confirm dates, times and prices on each host’s own site before you go.
