Christmas Train Rides in Georgia (2026)
Georgia does not have a licensed Polar Express. The closest one is across the North Carolina line in Bryson City, about two and a half hours from Atlanta, and our Christmas train map lists every licensed ride by state. What Georgia does have is a good spread of its own Santa trains, from the mountains at Blue Ridge to the coast at Kingsland, and a sing-along train circling Stone Mountain every night of the season.

The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway runs its Holiday Express as a one-hour trip from the depot in the middle of downtown Blue Ridge, about two hours north of Atlanta. It is a shorter product than the railroad’s usual run to McCaysville, with no layover: holiday music, a reading of The Night Before Christmas, a jingle bell and candy cane for every child, and a chance to see Santa. Cocoa and snacks are sold in the concession car.
Your ticket assigns a car, but seats inside are first come, first served. Arrive 45 minutes early because downtown parking is tight on weekends. The accessible coach is booked by phone at 877-413-8724, and strollers have to be folded to board.

Stone Mountain Park’s Scenic Railroad makes a five-mile loop around the base of the mountain in about 25 to 30 minutes, and during Stone Mountain Christmas it is dressed for the season. By day it is a straightforward ride; after dark it becomes the Sing-Along Train, with a stop at a small village for a holiday story along the way.
The train is one piece of a bigger night that includes Santa, a parade, light shows and indoor attractions, all on one Stone Mountain Christmas ticket. It is the closest holiday train to Atlanta and the easiest one to do on short notice, since it runs nearly every night of the season.

The Georgia Train runs out of a station museum in Kingsland, about two miles off I-95 near the Florida line, on what it calls one of the country’s oldest short lines. A quick show in the station theater kicks things off, then you board open-air cars where Santa, his elves, Frosty and other characters come through while everyone sings carols. Your ticket also gets you into the station’s model train layout.
The open-air cars have roofs but no restroom, so use the station first and dress for a cool evening. Snacks and drinks are sold in the station and can come aboard. Parking is in the grass beside the station, with overflow along the street.

Seats are assigned when you book. Tickets are not emailed; collect them at will call inside the depot. Listed fares are before tax and handling. Cordele sits right on I-75, about two and a half hours south of Atlanta, which makes this a reasonable stop on a drive to Florida.

Every car and seat is assigned. Coach is the family choice; the Deluxe and Premium classes come with snacks or lunch but have minimum ages. No outside food or coolers are allowed. Note that this train boards at the state park, not the Cordele depot.

Savannah’s holiday train is a one-day event at the Georgia State Railroad Museum, run by the Coastal Heritage Society in the old Central of Georgia railroad shops just west of downtown. In 2026 it is on Saturday, December 12, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
The society had posted the date but not the ticket price or full schedule when we checked in October, so watch its event page. On regular days the museum runs short site tours by train behind steam or diesel engines, and the shops and roundhouse are worth a look while you are there.
