Christmas Train Rides in Missouri (2026)

Missouri has two licensed Polar Express rides, and they are among the longest-running seasons in the country: St. Louis Union Station starts in mid-November and goes to December 30, and Branson runs on select dates into January. Beyond those, the Iron Mountain Railway in Jackson runs a two-hour Santa Express that has already sold out, the Arkansas & Missouri runs one day of Holiday Express trains from Monett, and Kansas City’s Union Station has a mini train for the littlest riders. The CPKC Holiday Train also makes four Missouri stops. Our Polar Express guide for all 50 states covers the rest of the Midwest.

St. Louis Union Station runs one of the longest Polar Express seasons anywhere, from mid-November to December 30, with decorated trains leaving the station’s Train Park every evening. On board, chefs pour freshly brewed hot chocolate with a cookie, the book is read aloud, and the train heads to a North Pole just north of the Arch grounds, where Santa boards and visits every child before the ride back.

It is also the least expensive licensed Polar Express we have found, with Holiday Saver seats just under $20. Arrive 45 minutes early for check-in and the activities in the depot tent, because doors close 10 minutes before departure. The Branson Scenic Railway runs its Polar Express from the depot in downtown Branson on select dates from mid-November into early January, which makes it a good fit for a holiday trip to the Ozarks. The train ride is about an hour and 15 minutes, and the whole visit about two hours: golden tickets punched, dancing chefs with hot chocolate and a treat, the book read aloud, Santa with a silver sleigh bell for everyone, and caroling on the way home. First Class and First Class Dome add a ceramic mug.

Arrive about 40 minutes before showtime; the platform closes 10 minutes after showtime and late guests cannot board. The small lot across the street, next to the Starbucks at 201 East Main, fills fast, so plan on paid parking nearby. The boarding platform is unheated.
