This sing-along concert is a musical journey through the winter season. Everyone is warmly invited to sing well-known and lesser-known Christmas songs from all over the world, in different languages. The lyrics are handed out on the spot, so no preparation is needed.

You can join in and sing without signing up for anything, or simply sit back and listen. Dominique Steiner leads the afternoon with Arthur Possing on piano. It lasts about an hour, from 4 pm on Sunday, December 13, and is recommended for ages 5 and up. Tickets are 11 euros, with a reduced price of 5.50 euros. It follows nicely after the Stärentaler fairytale earlier the same day.

Parent tip: Lyrics are provided at the venue.

This interactive storytelling concert is freely inspired by the Brothers Grimm tale of the Star Money. Near a little forest lives a girl with a big heart. She has very little, just a bit of food, a small scarf and a warm hat, but she has the joy of sharing. On her way through the woods she meets animals who need help, one cold, one hungry, one sad or alone, and she shares what she has without hesitation.

Dominique Steiner devised and presents the show with Arthur Possing on piano and keyboard. It is a warm, participatory tale about solidarity and compassion, told in Luxembourgish and lasting about 45 minutes. The two Sunday shows still had tickets when checked; the Saturday and Monday sessions were sold out. Tickets are 14 euros for adults and 7 euros for children.

Parent tip: Performed in Luxembourgish. Only the Sunday shows had tickets left when checked.

Every Saturday in Advent, a chalet on Place Benelux in Clervaux becomes a meeting point for friends, family and neighbours. The afternoons run from 3 to 7 pm on November 28 and December 5, 12 and 19.

The programme includes live music, hot drinks, small treats, Christmas melodies and creative workshops for children. A different local association hosts each week: the KC Domm Geloff Eeselburen, the Gemengemusik Munzen, the Munzer Gesank and the Jeunesse Ischpelt. It is a relaxed, small-scale option that fits easily into a winter walk around Clervaux, and on December 13 the town also holds its bigger Christmas market.

On Saturday, November 28, Saint Nicholas comes to the Nordstrooss in Marnach, in the commune of Clervaux, and gives a small present to each child he meets. His visit is split into two blocks: block A from 2 to 3 pm and block B from 4 to 5 pm.

It is a short, simple way for younger children to meet the Kleeschen in person, indoors and close to the main road through the north. The two blocks give some flexibility around naps and other plans. No booking details were given on the listing, so it seems you can simply turn up during one of the time slots.

Parent tip: There is a one-hour gap between the two sessions, from 3 to 4 pm.

On Sunday, December 13, Clervaux's Place du Marché and the surrounding streets fill with a crafts market from 11 am to 6 pm. Designers and sellers offer culinary treats, handmade decorations, wooden toys and more, and the town's associations serve Christmas specialities to eat and drink.

Musical and fairytale performances liven up the day, with the Harmonie Municipale de Clervaux adding a local touch. To make the trip easier, a free shuttle bus runs from 10 am to 8 pm between the town centre, Clervaux station and the multipurpose hall, where you can park. The market is part of Clervaux's winter programme, which turns the town into a Christmas village over the Advent weekends.

Parent tip: Park at the multipurpose hall and take the free shuttle into town.

Remich's covered synthetic rink brings winter skating to the heart of town on the Quai de la Moselle. The town presents it as fun for the whole family, whether for first steps on skates, a few laps with friends or a lively family outing, and the roof means it works in any weather.

Skating feels like a traditional rink, using normal skates without toe picks, which must be sharpened beforehand. Skates can be hired on site for 3 euros, or bring your own. Entry is 3 euros. The rink is open from November 28 to January 15, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 6 pm and Fridays to Sundays from 2 to 8 pm. It is closed on December 24, 25, 26 and 31 and January 1.

The market runs from 1 to 6 pm on Sunday, November 29, at 35 rue du Château, in the heart of the Luxembourg Ardennes.

On Friday, December 11, Wiltz puts on its traditional Christmas market at the castle, set within the Liichtwochen, the town's weeks of festive lights. From 5 pm, stalls fill the big marquee in the castle amphitheatre, offering Christmas flavours and specialities, gift ideas and handicrafts.

The organisers promise an enchanting programme of activities for young and old, with lights, music and Christmas spirit in a friendly atmosphere. Coming as a family early in the evening is the best way to enjoy the lights and the children's activities before bedtime. The covered marquee helps if the Ardennes weather turns cold or wet.

Parent tip: Come early in the evening with young children; the market runs late.

At 3 pm at the bandstand on the square, the mayor says a few words of welcome, children from the Grevenmacher primary school perform songs and poems, and Saint Nicholas gives his message. Every child then receives a well-filled bag of sweets. The whole programme runs until about 4 pm, making it a compact, classic Luxembourg Kleeschen afternoon by the river, a week before Saint Nicholas Day.
