On three December Saturdays, Santa's elves help kids write their letters to Santa at Chronicles Post & Station in downtown Cheyenne. Letters go into a special mailbox, and a Pony Express rider gallops in at noon and again at 2 pm to collect them and carry them to the post office. The letter writing station is open from 10 am to 4 pm.
This stop suits kids old enough to write or draw a wish list, and younger siblings will likely enjoy seeing the horse and rider arrive. Plan your visit around noon or 2 pm if you want to catch the Pony Express. It is one of several Old West Holiday stops downtown, so it pairs well with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Whipple House on the same Saturdays. The page does not list a price or registration.
Parent tip: Time your visit for the noon or 2 pm Pony Express pick-up. The station is listed at 15th St. and Thomes Ave. downtown, open Saturdays only.

During Cheyenne's Old West Holiday, Santa and Mrs. Claus set up at the Whipple House on East 17th Street for photos with families. Visit Cheyenne lists the visit on three Saturdays in December, from 10 am to 4 pm each day, as part of a downtown lineup of holiday stops.
This is a good fit for families who want a Santa photo in a historic downtown setting and plan to make a morning or afternoon of the other Old West Holiday stops nearby, such as the elf letter writing station and Santa's horses at Kringle Ranch. Visit Cheyenne also offers an Old West Holiday passport and map, released December 1, that guides families along the Santa trail. The page does not list a price or say whether you need to book ahead.
Parent tip: Santa and Mrs. Claus are there on Saturdays only, 10 am to 4 pm. Download the Old West Holiday passport and map from Visit Cheyenne to plan other downtown stops the same day.

The Laramie County Library in Cheyenne invites children and families to its Early Literacy Center on Tuesday, December 8, 2026, from 4:30 to 6 pm to build graham cracker gingerbread houses. The library provides all of the building materials, and kids bring the creativity.
This is a hands-on, after-school drop-in program, and supplies are limited, so the event is first come, first served. Arriving near the 4:30 pm start gives your family the best chance at a full set of materials. It is a good fit for children who enjoy building and decorating, and it gives families a simple holiday project to carry home. The Early Literacy Center is inside the main library on Pioneer Avenue, so you can also pick up a stack of winter picture books while you are there.
Parent tip: Supplies are limited and handed out first come, first served, so arrive close to 4:30 pm.

Book Babies: Winter Wonderland is a special seasonal edition of the Laramie County Library's regular program for babies, held on Friday, December 18, 2026, from 10:15 to 11 am in the Sage Room at the main library in Cheyenne. It is listed under the library's Story Time and Literacy programs for the Pre-K audience.
The morning starts with a short early literacy class for caregivers and babies, then moves on to winter-themed activities designed for little hands to explore. The library suggests dressing babies in play clothes because the activities could get messy. It is a gentle way to enjoy a festive outing with an infant or young toddler during the busy week before the holidays, and it gives caregivers a few new ideas for reading and playing at home over the winter break.
Parent tip: Dress your baby in play clothes, since the winter activities may get messy.

Casper's Downtown Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting is set for Saturday, December 5, 2026. Visit Casper lists the parade starting at David Street Station and stretching from the Old Yellowstone District through 2nd Street, with the community Christmas tree standing in the ice rink at David Street Station.
The parade theme and the final route are still to be announced, and the listing does not yet give a start time, so check back with Visit Casper before you head downtown. In past years the parade has been an evening event, so plan for cold temperatures with warm coats, hats and blankets for little ones, and arrive early to find a viewing spot along 2nd Street. David Street Station is the central gathering place for the evening and makes an easy meeting point if your group gets separated in the crowd.
Parent tip: The start time and route are not posted yet, so check the Visit Casper page the week of the event.

A story for the drive home
A morning with Santa or an evening of holiday stories tends to end the same way: tired kids, a long drive and one more book before bed. Our picture book follows Rally the corgi on his first train ride to see his grand-paw-rents, and every page is painted by hand. If your family is spending December missing someone, it was written for that too. For the car, print our free corgi and train coloring pages.
