Hi, I’m Kelsey
I wrote Rally Takes the Train. I announced at my mom’s memorial that I’d write the book she always dreamed of. She died during the COVID-19 pandemic, and my dad passed two months later.
Today my son is five, and he tells me, “I’m so sorry your dad is gone.” It feels like the perfect time to finally share my mom’s dream, and how I navigate being a mom without my parents.

I still published the book my dad wanted to record the audiobook for. I closed my eyes tight through more hard moments than I can count, and put on a brave face for my infant son while pregnant with my daughter. My grief could not define their childhood.
I spent the next four years building a happy life for my family while grieving: cleaning out my parents’ home, growing my career, and moving home to the US after years of living in Europe.
For as long as I can remember, my mom talked about this book: a little corgi packs his toys, rides the train along the coast with his family, and at the very last stop his grand-paw-rents are waiting on the platform. Rally is our real corgi. I’m so excited to share her dream with the world this Christmas.

What happens in the book
Rally wakes up early, packs his suitcase, finds a seat by the window, makes friends with the conductor and leaves a little “corgi glitter” down the aisle. There is a dark tunnel along the way, and on the other side, someone he loves is waiting. It is a happy story about finding the light, even after life’s darkest moments.
