The Mississauga Santa Claus Parade returns on Saturday, November 21, in downtown Mississauga. The City's calendar lists the celebration at Celebration Square from 4 pm to 7 pm, and the City news release says the parade itself steps off at 6 pm. Expect glowing, illuminated floats, family friendly activities, outdoor holiday cheer and Santa himself.
This year's theme, Sauga's Home for the Holidays, invites entries to share the traditions, cultures and stories that make the city feel like home. The evening also marks the opening of the City's largest outdoor ice rink and the lighting of the Christmas tree at Celebration Square, with Santa photos among the sponsored activities. Road closures will be in effect, and the City says route details will be shared closer to the date.
Parent tip: Road closures apply downtown, so check the City event page for the route and plan parking or transit ahead; bring skates if you want to try the newly opened rink.

The Cooksville BIA invites the community to Lighting Up Cooksville on Saturday, November 28, from 4 pm to 6 pm at Cooksville Four Corners, 10 Dundas Street. It is a festive late afternoon celebrating community spirit and the start of the holiday season, and it is listed on the City of Mississauga events calendar as a drop-in event.
Families can meet Santa Claus, enjoy free hot chocolate and take in festive music as the neighbourhood is lit up for the season. The organizers encourage everyone to bring family, friends and neighbours. It is a short, local event that pairs well with an early dinner nearby, and the timing means the lights come on as it gets dark.
Parent tip: It is outdoors at a busy intersection, so keep little ones close and dress for the cold; arrive near 4 pm for the shortest wait to see Santa.

The Nutcracker plays the Living Arts Centre on Saturday, November 28, with a 2 pm matinee and a 7 pm evening show, each running a little under two hours. This production from Classical Arts Entertainment features hand painted sets, more than 200 costumes and Tchaikovsky's score, with favourite scenes such as the Waltz of the Snowflakes and the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Dancers come from 12 countries.
Child tickets for ages 1 to 12 start at $35 and adult tickets start at $65, plus fees. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult, and each order needs at least one adult ticket. Infants under 12 months and support persons can get complimentary tickets through the Ticket Office. The production uses the Ukrainian Gopak in place of the Russian Dance.
Parent tip: The 2 pm matinee is the easier choice for younger children; all sales are final, and the LIVE Restaurant offers a 4 pm buffet with reservations recommended.

A Merry Little Christmas is a family friendly holiday concert on Saturday, December 12, from 4 pm to 5 pm at the Living Arts Centre. Musicians from the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra and the Mississauga Symphony Youth Orchestra share the stage as one large orchestra, playing beloved holiday favourites.
The program includes festive sing-alongs, which makes it a good first orchestra concert for children who might not sit through a longer evening show. At one hour, the length suits younger listeners. Tickets start at $30 plus fees and are sold through Ticketmaster, and the orchestra also offers flex packages for families who want to attend more than one concert. The concert is organized by the orchestra, an external group, and listed on the City's events calendar.
Parent tip: Choose this 4 pm family performance rather than the longer 7:30 pm evening concert if you are bringing younger children.

The program celebrates the holiday season by making a special gift for winter birds, a nice twist on holiday crafting for nature loving kids.
Participants learn to identify common backyard birds, make a pinecone feeder and help decorate a tree with the tasty treats. It is listed for school age children and families. Registration opens through TRCA one month before the event, so families should sign up ahead rather than dropping in. The pinecone feeder is something kids can hang at home to watch for visiting birds over the winter.
Parent tip: Registration opens through TRCA one month before the program, so it should already be open; sign up soon to secure a spot.

Santa Claus is coming to Oakville on Saturday, November 14. The Town of Oakville runs the parade with a volunteer committee and the business community, and this year's theme is North Pole Sweets and Treats. The Kerr Village BIA lists the parade from 9 am to 11 am. Expect bands, floats and walking groups from local schools, community groups and businesses.
The tradition dates back to 1948, when the first parade was organized to bring people downtown, and last year marked the 77th parade. The event goes ahead rain or shine, so dress for the weather. The Town's Attend the Parade page explains what to wear and bring, where to go and how to reach the route, and there is also a colouring contest for kids.
