How we verify train museums
When a museum page in our family train guide carries the Museum Verified badge, it means the museum itself has read the page and approved it. Here is exactly what that involves.
What the badge means
- Someone at the museum, railroad or historical society read our page about them and confirmed it is accurate, or told us exactly what to fix.
- We made every correction and addition they sent before the badge went on.
- The date on the badge is the day the museum confirmed the page.
- Verification is free. Museums never pay for the badge or for a page in our guide.
How verification works
- We research from official sourcesEvery page starts with the museum’s own website, social accounts and published schedules, along with trusted references for history.
- We send the page to the museumWe write to the museum’s staff or volunteers, share the page, and ask them to check hours, prices, ages, accessibility, events and history.
- The museum reviews itThey confirm it, send corrections, or share news we should add, like holiday trains, new exhibits or a better contact.
- We update the pageWe make every change they ask for. We do not add the badge until the page matches what the museum told us.
- The badge and date go onThe page shows who verified it and when, and that information is included in the page’s structured data for search engines.
Keeping pages current
Hours, fares and event dates change. Whenever a museum sends new information, we update the page and refresh the review date. If a page goes a long time without a fresh review, or a museum asks us to, we remove the badge until it is confirmed again.
Planning a visit? Even on a verified page, please check the museum’s own website or call ahead before a long drive. Small museums are often run by volunteers, and schedules can change with the weather.
Corrections
If you spot something out of date on any page, verified or not, email kelsey@rallytakesthetrain.com. We fix confirmed errors quickly and note the update date on the page.
For museums
Run a museum, tourist railroad or depot that appears in our guide? We would love for you to review your page. Reply to any email from us or write to kelsey@rallytakesthetrain.com. Verified museums can also add a free Museum Verified badge to their own website, with simple step-by-step instructions on our badge page.
